Let’s Talk About Camping on a Budget!
Ever since I can recall, my big family and I have loved going camping. My dad is the youngest of nine, which meant there were always heaps of cousins to hang out and have fun with.
Over the years, we’ve had our share of mishaps – like the time I accidentally ran into a hidden fire pit, or when my cousin capsized a canoe because he didn’t want to wear a life jacket! And let’s not forget the incident with a burning marshmallow and my leg. Yet, despite these little setbacks, I absolutely adore camping. I’m super excited for this year’s big trip as it’s been a while since our last family camping adventure.
Last year, while on the road for work, I slept in a tent rather than a hotel. Not only did I save money, but it was nice to reconnect with nature. Though, there was one time when my campsite was right next to a busy road – not ideal!
The point is, camping season is here! It’s a budget-friendly way to spend some quality time with family and friends. If you’re looking for inexpensive campsites, check out the RA Camping app developed by Reserve America. State parks are another cheap option, sometimes costing as low as $5 per night. They might offer fewer amenities but the savings are worth it.
In the wilderness, we still have to think about food, right? Here’s a fun and easy-to-make campfire treat:
– Banana
– Nutella
– Mini Marshmallows
– Aluminum Foil
Peel a strip of banana skin, scoop out some flesh, fill the area with Nutella, top with mini marshmallows, cover it back up with the skin, wrap in foil and put it on hot coals for 10 minutes. Once it’s soft to touch, dig in!
Plus, you can cook a substantial meal in a bag! Here’s how:
– Onion soup mix
– Flour
– Butter
– Chicken Breasts
– Veggies
Chop the veggies, put everything in an aluminum bag, give it a good mix, and grill it for 30 minutes. Opening the hot bag needs a bit of caution though!
I’m a big fan of board games too. They’re super fun, especially if it’s raining and we’re huddled inside our tent. My current faves are ‘Cards Against Humanity’ for adults, and ‘Ticket to Ride’ which is quite addictive.
Are you into camping? Have some cool recipes or games you’d like to share for my next camping trip? Let me know!
