Can Easyshift Help You Earn Some Extra Cash?
So, I recently came across this app, EasyShift, that helps you make a bit of extra money by taking pictures or verifying prices in stores. Not bad, right? Especially considering each task seems to pay quite well, often within $10-20.
I thought this might be a good way to fill my downtime. You see, I recently took a part-time job in the morning and usually get a three-hour gap before I start my main job. Heading home didn’t make sense (takes too long) so I needed something to do other than staring at my laptop in Starbucks.
That’s how I got into EasyShift. Here’s my take:
The Good Stuff:
Lots of tasks are available, especially if you’re in NYC.
They pay pretty decently, better than other similar apps.
Getting started is a breeze.
They give clear instructions if a store manager isn’t happy with you clicking pictures.
Payments are regular and through PayPal.
The Not-So-Good Stuff:
You don’t know what tasks a job entails before you choose it.
There’s a 24-hour limit to finish a job.
If you miss any details or can’t find an item in a store (not your fault), you get paid less. And they don’t tell you before adjusting your payment.
One thing I wish I knew before starting is that each ‘shift’ is made up of many tasks. For example, I took a task that happened to be on my way to work, thinking I’d complete it in an hour or so. Guess what? The task had over 400 mini-tasks – locating items, photographing them, capturing their price tags, and their shelf locations. And if I couldn’t find an item? I was still expected to search the entire store. This took me two whole hours!
Did I feel frustrated? You’d be right. However, I don’t mind putting in the time, but it’s a bummer they don’t tell you how long a task might take before you sign up for it.
While I’m going to try out more shifts, if you’re considering EasyShift, be prepared to spend quite a bit of time in-store. Sure, making $14.80 feels good, but bear in mind the time it takes.
In short, like mystery shopping, it could be a handy side gig if you’re passing by and have time to fill. But it’s probably not worth going out of your way for.
Remember, your time is money, too!
