Hey there! It’s Mel from brokeGIRLrich. Today, let’s talk about the Broadway Stage Management Symposium. Just to let you know, I’m not getting any perks for promoting this, but I’ve participated in the past and I can tell you – it’s pretty great.
Wondering what it is? It’s this fantastic gathering of stage managers, arguably some of the coolest folks around. There’s a whole mix of panel discussions and keynote speeches all centered on various aspects of stage management.
Plus, it’s not just about talks – you also get networking time and access to a tech expo. You can explore stage management tools, associations, and other cool stuff that you might find interesting. This year, we’re also organizing a group trip to watch Paradise Square and a Q&A afterward.
Adding to the excitement, there’s a full third day this year packed with tech workshops led by groups like Virtual Callboard, Stage Write, Stage Spot, Showbuilder, Cue-to-Cue, and CallQ.
And yes, I’m pumped up to learn from “The Study & Analysis of Stage Management” session. Cherie B. Tay, someone I admire a lot, is giving a keynote. Most of what she does is so intriguing.
The symposium is happening both in person in NYC and online from May 21-22, 2022, and there’s a bonus day of tech workshops on May 23rd.
As for the cost, in-person tickets are priced at $227, while virtual tickets go for $177. If you’re interested in watching Paradise Square and attending the post-show Q&A, that’ll be an extra $80.
Don’t let the cost to put you off – there are a few different payment plans available, and if you’re facing financial hardships, you can reach out to info@broadwaysymposium.com to see if a custom payment plan can work for you.
Personally, I think this event is wonderful. It’s truly a unique opportunity for stage managers, and everyone is so warm and friendly. Where else do you find such a large group gathering explicitly to talk about stage management?
Ever attended the Broadway Stage Management Symposium before? What did you love about it? What topics would you like to see on the panels next year?
