Discovering New Orleans: Unveil the Must-Have Experiences and What You Can Safely Pass On

New Orleans: What’s Worth Your Time and Money

Just came back from a fun trip to New Orleans with a good friend. After lots of research and experience, here’s my list of things to miss and definitely try when you’re there!

Not Worth It: Pat O’Brian’s Hurricanes

We found that Pat O’Brian’s is where the original hurricane cocktail was born. But honestly, just pass up on it. Tasted awful, even for a rum enthusiast like me.

Worth It: Tropical Isle Shark Attack

Although it’s a cheesy tourist cocktail – pink liquid and a plastic shark included – it’s quite enjoyable. A total fun drink!

Not Worth It: The Creole Queen

Though I love boat rides, sadly this one was dull. The music wasn’t great and most of the time was spent waiting to get off. So, it’s better to spend your money elsewhere.

Worth It: Psychic Reading at Bottom of the Cup Tea Room

Surprisingly, this featured as a highlight of our trip. Despite not being a fan of psychic readings, I found the tarot cards and tea leaves session quite amusing. Total money well spent.

Not Worth It: Café du Monde

I’d just suggest skipping Café du Monde unless you’re dying to try beignets. They’re quite like the zeppoles from local fairs.

Worth It: Mother’s Restaurant

They claim to have the best biscuits – and boy, do they deliver! They are huge and incredibly tasty. Just remember that their portion sizes are massive!

Not Worth It: Hand Grenades Drink

On Bourbon Street, skip the Hand Grenades drink unless you’re a big Midori fan. It was hard to even take a few sips.

Worth It: Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop

It’s America’s oldest building still functioning as a bar, with a rich history of piracy. Despite the massive crowds, it’s worth a visit.

Not Worth It: Witches’ Brew Ghost Tours and Museum of Death

Consider missing out on the Witches’ Brew Ghost Tours. The group was too large, and the storytelling wasn’t engaging. The Museum of Death also didn’t live up to its price and was over quite quickly.

Worth It: The Pharmacy Museum

A fun and cheap visit! However, be ready for crowds. And if you’re an “American Horror Story: Coven” fan, you’ll be thrilled to see the iconic scene location in the museum courtyard.
