New York City Hustle: A Journey to Financial Growth
Hi, it’s Mel from “brokeGIRLrich”. I was just reminiscing about my time in New York and how impactful it was for my financial growth. There’s just something unique about hustling in The Big Apple.
While living in New York, I was able to grow my net worth significantly through multiple income streams, which got me thinking—if there’s a city that knows how to earn money, it’s NYC! As I reflect, I feel the relentless hustle of the city kept me motivated to earn.
Living in a place as expensive as New York is indeed a driving force to work harder. Personally, I was so addicted to my Starbucks routine that I started mystery shopping just to afford it! You could say that was the beginning of my endless journey into the world of side hustles.
It was a common trend to meet New Yorkers juggling more than one job. I recall interacting with fellow bloggers who were running their blogs as a side job while managing their main work or even starting new ventures! The endless loop of side gigs was extremely energizing.
Before moving to New York, I did have some experiences with side gigs. However, being in the city transformed these minor gigs into significant side incomes. It’s not just about making money but also about staying active and forming new connections.
During my time in New York, I had several income sources: my day job, occasional stage management gigs, blog earnings, and freelance writing assignments, all while trying my hand at YouTube. Funny thing, even after leaving New York and returning to the suburbs, I find myself yearning for the perpetual hustle life in New York, something I had taken for granted.
Living in such an energized, goal-oriented hub, you start to see everyone hustling on side projects. This contrasts a lot from my current suburb life, where fewer people seem to be involved in personal projects or planning their next big venture.
That was my New York hustle journey for a while, and I didn’t realize how special it was until I left the city. Now I see there’s truly no hustle like a New York City hustle.
