Unraveling the True Value of the Vienna Pass Card

Wondering if the Vienna Pass Card is worth it? I’ve got you covered!

Our travel journeys have brought us to many cities, and we’ve used city cards in most of them. They help streamline our plans, assist with budgeting, and let us prepay for many attractions before we even start our trips. But they’re not all perfect, and sometimes they offer less appealing attractions or discounts we could get elsewhere.

During our latest trip in Eastern Europe, we traveled to Prague, Budapest, and Vienna. Vienna was the most expensive – it’s bigger, more metropolitan, and Euros are the currency there. This city felt less like Eastern Europe and more like a spick and span version of New York City or London.

We found the Vienna Pass super useful. The Pass also includes a Travelcard option, good for traveling around the city, but not valid for airport-city commutes. It’s based on an honor system, meaning no one really checks if you have a ticket or not. However, to keep things moral, we were glad we had the pass.

What’s nice about the Vienna Pass is that it includes admission to many top Vienna attractions such as Schonbrunn Palace, Hofburg Palace, and Danube Tower. One of our favorites, however, was the Imperial Carriage Museum, which we strongly recommend.

In three days, we visited many sites including the Spanish Riding School, the Apple Strudel Show, and the Otto Wagner Pavilion. In total, we spent €153,60 while the 3-day Vienna Card only costs €125,00 – a saving of €28,60! There were also other activities we did that weren’t part of the card, so you could potentially save even more.

We highly recommend trying out the Vienna State Opera, especially if you’re an opera enthusiast. Not fully committed? Opt for standing tickets — they’re affordable at 3 to 4 Euros, and go on sale 80 minutes before the curtain rises. And don’t miss out on Sacher Torte, a lavish cake from Vienna that they serve at Sacher Hotel just behind the opera.

We also made a trip to Seagrotte via a Viator day tour. Although it wasn’t our favorite tour, it was good to see other areas outside the city.

In conclusion, the Vienna Pass can definitely help save money and ensures you see all the big tourist spots. Now, over to you! Have you visited Vienna? What was your favorite place to see there?
