Review of the “Piñata” Brand Ambassador App

Was unemployed, and out of the blue, I found this cool app named – Piñata. If you’re around New York or New Jersey and have some extra time that you wouldn’t mind converting into cash, you might enjoy Piñata.

What’s Piñata? Well, it’s this fun app that hooks up companies with folks willing to wave their flag as brand ambassadors. You know, the people you see at the markets dishing out free samples?

Sure, you can find brand ambassador gigs online or dig through Craigslist, but Piñata just takes the hassle out of the whole process. Just download the app, do the paperwork and film a quick 30-second video explaining why you’d make a fab brand ambassador. Don’t forget to style your hair and fluff up your make-up as you are selling yourself in that video.

Once you’re set up, you can check out job listings where Piñata has teamed up with many companies offering products from cocktails to granola. Most opportunities are in NYC but places in Northern/Central New Jersey and Connecticut aren’t left out either.

Each company lists when they need brand ambassadors. You pick a slot that works for you, and apply. This application again requires a quick video of why you and the chosen brand are the perfect match. So, if you’re into cocktails, maple water, or granola, it’s go-time!

It took me about five tries before Granola Lab chose me. After an informative call with the company’s owner, I was set to represent them. They sent a box of their products to my New Jersey residence. The demos were 3-hour long each, and I earned $20 per hour, not bad if you ask me.

This whole process was very easy-going, and if there were more stores close by, I’d certainly do it again.

Pros:
– The journey from application to real work was a breeze.
– My interactions with the Granola Lab’s owner were pleasant.
– Piñata made accessing necessary info really simple.
– I had very minimal interactions with humans, except during the demos.
– This gig isn’t always requiring my commitment; it’s super flexible!
– I was also left with some granola, delicious by the way.
– I met some cool people.

Here are a few bumps along the way:
– I had to arrange my own table (not always the case, and clearly stated in the app before applying).
– Most jobs are NYC oriented.
– I had to drive about an hour for one of my demos.
– Stint can get a tad bit monotonous.
– I had major issues with their payment processing partner, Stripe.

In terms of pros, the simplicity of applying and working makes Piñata a great option, especially if you’re flexible with your schedule. Also, you get connected with all the details for your demos, and even if you’re a rookie like me, it’s pretty easy. Plus, who doesn’t want extra granola?

However, a pain point was Stripe, Piñata’s payment partner. Payments didn’t go smoothly. Late payments, incorrect amounts, even unauthorised deductions. The way they handled my requests was terrible, while Piñata’s support was excellent.

Even though I loved this journey, their association with Stripe makes me pause. If you’ve had positive experiences with them, it might be a worthy venture. Despite their payment issues, I think it’s a brilliant way to earn extra bucks. You could earn around $240 additional cash per month for 3-4 hours a week of easy-peasy work. But for me, Stripe’s a deal-breaker.
