Discover the Reasons My Wallet Prefers the Single Life!

Why Being Single is Great for Your Pocket
Hi there! Today, let’s chat about a realization I had. Do you know, being single can be quite a blessing for your wallet? It hit me when I moved out of a shared apartment.

You see, when you live with a partner, you tend to split bills. But when you’re solo, the financial burden seems to increase. Yet, there’s an upside. Certain expenses tend to ease off when you’re single. Like for me, I noticed that I only bought toilet paper once this year – a big, cost-saving pack of 30! Now, I’m getting ready to move again, and guess what? I still have 4 rolls left. Fascinating, right?

This got me wondering; where else did I save money by being single this year?

Firstly, I only spent on what I enjoyed. For instance, this year, my baseball tickets spent was a solid zero. Why? Because I couldn’t care less about baseball. Similarly, Panda Express, a fast food chain that my former partner loved (and I detested), also got none of my dollars.

During the tough times post-breakup, I had my hermit phase. It wasn’t healthy, but it sure did save money. Over time, I realized I needed to step out of my apartment and stop binge-watching the old Northern Exposure reruns.

Eating out became an entirely personal decision based on my financial situation. Hence, I didn’t have the pressure to dine out and split the check. Interestingly, I found pleasure in simple meals like the $1 empanada from the corner store on my way home.

Also, initiatives like a no-spend week became easier. You see, being single means you control your budget, no distractions.

Living alone, I saved on electricity too – complete control over the A/C, heat, and lighting. No one to judge my choices or call me cheap. Being single also means the quantity of laundry is just for one, another noticeable saving.

When my last relationship ended, I even saved on travel, as I was no longer driving hours weekly to see my partner.

You may have heard the saying – “two can live as cheaply as one.” In reality, this doesn’t always hold weight, unless the savings on rent and utilities balance out buying extra toiletries.

So that’s a peep into my journey. How about you? Have you saved money from being single? Let’s chat!
