Affordable Period Management with THINX
Hey there, before we begin, a heads up – we’ll be chatting about periods openly here. If you’re not comfortable with this topic, feel free to skip this one.
So, let’s dive into THINX, an intriguing underwear brand that I found. Their ads on my social media had me spinning with all kinds of emotions – curiosity, hope, and a bit of horror, no less. The idea of being able to wear something that could make managing periods easier and cost-effective was exciting. And I recently had the chance to try out a pair.
Periods can be a dent in the pocket, trust me. Each month, I would spend about $6.97 on around 20 tampons, of various kinds. That might sound small, but it adds up to a yearly expense of $50, not even taking into account the unjust “tampon tax.” Now, if you prefer pads, the cost is similar – around $38.29 for the year.
Think about this – the average American woman enters menopause around the age of 51. So, from starting my period at 12, I would spend around 39 years buying tampons or pads. That’s $1,950 for tampons or $1,493 for pads over a lifetime, not even counting inflation.
Enter THINX, a fascinating period-friendly underwear that could bring down this amount. A pair costs between $34-38, but considering they offer a 60-day satisfaction guarantee, it’s worth the gamble. Plus, they’re not only more comfortable but also much kinder to the environment than my regular period management routine.
So, I took the plunge and wore THINX for a whole day at work, on a heavy period day. I was anxious, expecting to bleed through it, feeling soggy, or maybe smelling unpleasant. To my delight, none of these fears materialized.
They were comfortable, seemed to reduce cramping for me, and stayed incredibly dry. The only uncertainty was not knowing when they were “full.” Also, carrying around the used pair and having to wash a load of blood in public didn’t sound appealing.
But they have an absorbency equivalent to 2 regular tampons, which was perfect for me and met their promises. The minor inconvenience of washing and carrying them around was more than made up for by their comfort and effectiveness. I might even buy more.
While they might not completely replace tampons for convenience, having around 4 pairs can offer a comfortable balance. And at $144 for that, this investment sounds reasonable to me. Most importantly, they’re are a lot more comfortable and less messy than any other reusable methods I’ve tried.
You can give THINX a try too, using the referral link for a $10 discount on your first purchase. Pass on the word and help someone manage their periods efficiently.
