Reflecting on My Side Hustles for the Past Two Years

In the past two years, I’ve written over 300 posts for my blog, ‘I’m Just A Broke Girl.’ Apart from sharing my monthly financial progress and engaging with an amazing online community, my blog helped me learn the art of hustling.
Starting the blog forced me to creatively think and generate new content three times a week. Interestingly, since I began monitoring my finances and making strategy lists, I’ve noticed not just my net worth increasing, but also my side income.
Though it began slowly, my side hustles now consistently bring in an additional $100 a month. There was a period when I was trying to secure funds for FinCon ’14, my side income even leaped into several hundreds per month.
What I love about this is the reassurance of having multiple avenues for income, making it possible to cover bills, boost my savings or reduce debts. None of these income streams is substantial on its own. However, the experience and basic stability each provides may pave the way for developing them further in the future.
One hustle that often gets underestimated is making money on eBay. It may sound unconventional, but some people do make a living by buying cheap items and selling them for a profit.
However, note that when I returned to stage managing full time in December, I didn’t include that income in my side hustle calculations. The highlight of my two-year side hustle journey includes earning 33 cents in January 2014 and seeing a steady increase in income from my blog, ‘I’m Just A Broke Girl,’ last year. Also, extending my writing realm to freelancing helped me broaden my reader base even more effectively than it boosted my finances.
