Rethinking Our Approach: Focusing on Earning More!
Here’s an interesting switch of perspective for you. For a while, I’ve been advocating the idea of ‘spend less, earn more.’ I’ve always encouraged cash-saving habits because, honestly, who doesn’t benefit from saving a little bit more? But during the hearts-to-hearts with my boyfriend on our weekend road trips, we spoke about earning more, which got me thinking.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I highly regard blogs like J. Money’s Side Hustle series and The Pennyhoarder. The problem is, reading about concepts and actually implementing them are two quite different things. We’ve brainstormed app ideas that later became reality – not because we created them, but because others did. Though I don’t know the first thing about app development, it made me realize – by not taking action, I do sell myself short on possible opportunities.
My personal attempt at a side hustle initially was doing surveys during grad school. While the prospect seemed appealing, in retrospect, the endless hours invested for merely $25 was a definite fail. Maybe I followed the wrong strategies – I’m open to learning from those who’ve found success here.
Still, some side hustles have worked for me, including substitute teaching, selling on eBay, and working in theaters on an overhire basis. The overarching lesson here is that ramping up your income doesn’t always involve making heaps of money at once. It’s often about those small, consistent gains that can turn substantial with sound investing.
In line with this, I’m advocating for Robert G. Allen’s book, Multiple Streams of Income: How to Generate a Lifetime of Unlimited Wealth this month. It’s a fantastic guide that helps you navigate income generation through investing, real estate, and marketing. So, don’t forget to enter the giveaway!
Got any fun or disastrous side hustles yourself? Are there any that have surprisingly turned into roaring successes? Let’s swap stories!
Finally, while our spending habits are important, maybe it’s time we shifted the focus to earning more. After all, the more you put in, the luckier you get!
