Ever Find Yourself Surrounded by Unexpected Career Fantasies?

Got Any Bizarre Work-Related Dreams?
by Mel, posted on October 18, 2023

Ever had those wild dreams related to work? Well, I’m going off track of the usual personal finance topics to share some of my insane, work-oriented dreams that seem to tag along especially after high-stress events.

I recently worked at an incredibly high-pressure festival, and boy, the dreams that followed! Picture this, after days of limited sleep, dealing with tons of people each night, it felt like being in an intricate puzzle that never ended.

The actual event wasn’t all that bad, despite the long and tiring days with rehearsals starting as early as 8 AM and ending at about 9:30/10 PM. Then I’d run home, prepare for the next day and get back by 7 AM. So, yeah, I survived on barely 4-6 hours of sleep that week.

The work was tough but fun in its own way. However, the aftermath has been filled with dreams, so vivid and real, I wake up feeling like I ran the entire show again in my sleep.

This brings me to my first notable work dream during my college years. We ran out of green gels while setting lights for a late-night call. You know what I did in the dream? I ended up smearing toothpaste on all the lights! As bizarre as it sounds, at least it was noticeably a dream.

But these recent dreams don’t feel like dreams at all. It’s like my brain takes me back on duty even while I’m asleep. The only other time I experienced this was during a frenetic Fame tour, some seven years ago. Every night, I dreamt of calling the show till I woke up. It felt unrelenting, like the job never gave me a moment’s peace.

Now, I can’t help but notice a link here – jobs that deprive you of adequate sleep tend to induce such dreams. Like the Fame tour that had a mad schedule, often ending days at about 1-2 AM and starting the following day at 8 AM.

Having my mind on such overdrive doesn’t exactly feel like a win, but I haven’t found a real solution except to take a deep breath and wait for it to pass. For now, I continue to dream of directing thousands of performers in my sleep, for an event that ended over a week ago and I won’t ever have to repeat.

Enough about me, do you ever have repetitive work dreams that make you feel like you’re constantly at work? Any secret recipes to get rid of them? I’m all ears!
