It’s commonly believed that loan debts are inevitable for college students. But, there are avenues to get a degree without sinking into debt. You don’t have to be a star athlete or a music genius to find scholarships – you can even attend college for free!
Yes, you heard it right. Free of charge! Sure, you might need to work part-time on campus or move to a new place. You might need to commit to jobs after graduation, or tolerate religious studies, but it’s a viable option if you’re determined to graduate without a debt. Let’s explore a few institutes where it’s possible:
Webb Institute: This is perfect if you’re focused on studying naval architecture and marine engineering. While the tuition is free, they don’t accept Advanced Placement (AP) courses or transfer credits from other schools. However, the gain is big: free tuition.
College of the Ozarks: Ideal for natives of the Ozarks who are comfortable with a faith-based education. The college offers numerous majors and is fully accredited. All students partake in a work program like janitorial tasks or farming, with a small stipend applied directly to their tuition. Students are still responsible for living costs and should apply for the FAFSA, whose funds, if allocated, will also go towards tuition.
Berea College: Berea is another choice for those okay with a religious college. There are no location restrictions, and the school grants recognized degrees. Like the College of the Ozarks, students participate in a labor program.
Military Academies: For those ready to serve their country after graduation and are exceptional students, military academies like Citadel, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, West Point, Coast Guard Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy are good options. The condition here is several years of enlistment in the respective military branches.
German Universities: If you’re open to studying abroad, several countries offer programs in English where your education will be free. Bear in mind, while tuition is free, you’ll need to cover costs for living. Germany is at the forefront of nations offering free education and even extends this benefit to graduate studies.
