# My Adventures with Side Hustling
Hey there! I wanted to share my experiences on makin’ some extra bucks on the side. Ever heard of “side hustle?” Well, I hadn’t either, until a few years back.
Like most of us, I was trying to figure out how to pay off my student loans and just making ends meet wasn’t going to cut it. That’s how I stepped into the world of side hustling.
My first try at a side gig was mystery shopping. It isn’t half bad, especially if you live in a big city. For just 20 minutes of my time that would otherwise make me zilch, I ended up with a free meal and maybe an extra $5-15. Fair deal, right? There were even some gigs where I’d check out office buildings and get paid around $75 for a quick report on their front desk or security.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to be an expert to start a side hustle. The main thing is just to get started. Learn as you go and you might be surprised at where you end up. However, I came to find that mystery shopping didn’t really fulfill my needs for a side hustle. Considering how much I travel, I needed something I could do whenever and wherever I wanted. So, I ventured into blogging.
You’d be surprised as to how many bloggers are making a good side or even full-time income. So, I gave it a shot, setting up some Google Adsense and Amazon ads. I even made a few bucks, though at first, it wasn’t exactly raining money.
Gradually, I got more engaged in blogging, selling ad spaces and sponsored posts. It started to pay off — I was making a little extra each month, spending about 10-15 hours a week on it. There were even some offers to write for other places, which was a nice bonus.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I put a lot of effort into my blog. But, what I aimed for was a part-time gig that could help me supplement my income without making it a full-blown, 9-to-5 job. My goal was something I could scale up if needed, but not something that would consume all my free time.
You know, it’s funny, I started blogging around the same time as a fellow New Yorker working in the arts did. She’s pretty much a superstar now, and while I respect her hustle, I’m quite content with my part-time income and my supportive community.
So here’s the deal: finding the sweet spot in your side hustle journey is a game-changer. The true magic of a good side hustle is finding something that’s just the right size for you, and then simply enjoying it. So, let’s hear about your side hustle journey, shall we?
